3.4 km walk into Keadue village, bidding 3 cosy pubs offering creamy Guinness pints, a top-notch local butcher and a small convenience store.
Lough Meelagh has a short 1 km biodiversity loop around part of the lake and is quite pretty to visit to stretch your legs.
Further on past Lough Meelagh is Kilronan castle which has further way marked walks around parts of the lake, 3km right up to 8km. There is also The tunnel cafe on site for light lunch, coffee and sweet treats.

Definately worth a visit if you're a keen mountain biker. The climbs are short but tough enough, the decents are fun and flowy and the views are spectacular. Even if its not a clear day to reslish in the view, you'll be still amazed by the fresh woodland smells, plenty of forest streams, vast expanses of heather. It's so calm up there, it's like being in a world of your own.
Week days are very quiet, you could have the place to yourself. Weekends are busy-ish but definately not overcrowed.

Union wood is perfect for walkers of all ages and fitness levels, there are plenty of fireroad trails and routes to follow. Be sure to stick to the fire roads so as to not get surprised by a speedy biker on the biking trails :)

Turlough O'Carolan (the Irish Vivaldi), a famous blind celtic harpist from Keadue. Visit his grave in Kilroanan cemetary overlooking Lough Meelagh. Some very old tombstones and Celtic crosses to be found here.
Take a walk from the cottage , walk to kilronan woods (or knockranny woods, shorter loop) do a loop and stop here on the way back, make sure to stop in at Roddy's local pub for a pint before you get home!
