A 15 minute walk from our Treetop Pavilion AirBnB. This locally owned ice cream shop makes all their own ice creams and cones, uses all organic ingredients all sourced from local farmers, is waste free and most importantly DELICIOUS! They also have homemade gluten free cones and vegan ice cream options. Lines can be long but so worth the wait! (Closed from mid December through mid January) It is nice to walk through downtown Fairfax while eating your cone. I like to make my way to the Pavilion Park around the corner at 66 Bolinas Road and sit under the redwood trees. +1 (415) 453-3130 63 Broadway Blvd, Fairfax

This locally owned family business is a 15 minute walk from our Treetop Pavilion AirBnB and is my favorite Indian restaurant anywhere. I love their saag paneer made with organic spinach along with one of their tasty naan breads. They also have gluten free naan! In fact 95% of their menu is gluten free. They have both indoor and outdoor dining as well as a popular take out business. Tel (415) 457-7836 https://cafelotusfairfax.com Cafe Lotus 1912 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Fairfax, CA 94930

Towns Nearby - Walking Distance

The funky town of Fairfax is the town that is the closest walking distance from the Treetop Pavilion AirBnB. A small town feel offering great restaurants, coffee shops, movie theater and music venues. "Only in Fairfax" tends to be it's motto with a community that prides itself on retaining its quirky, hippy-like atmosphere.

A walk into downtown San Anselmo, "California's quintessential quaint small town" takes about 30 minutes. You will find lovely coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques and little parks. Imagination Park was donated by local resident and film director George Lucas. It has a fountain with statues of Yoda and Indiana Jones. My husband and I run an Argentine Tango Dance Studio located at 167 Tunstead Ave near the library. I recommend taking the back roads for a nice stroll through the winding neighborhoods. From the Treetop Pavilion go east on Rutherford then turn right onto Butterfield, left on Sir Francis Drake then take a right onto San Anselmo Avenue which will take you downtown.

Wonderful beach to just hang out or take a nice walk. Sometimes we just drive out to watch the sunset. Plenty of parking. There is a public restroom, water fountains and showers to wash off the sand. Enjoy the Parkside cafe. They have inside and outside dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a nice hamburger and ice cream stand right next to the cafe.

Favorite Hikes

This is a great easy hike around Phoenix Lake. Short and sweet yet you are transported to another place. About one hour for this 2.7 mile loop. A lovely park at the base of the trail is great for a picnic. I suggest stopping by Comforts Deli to pick up some food then head on over to the park/trail. Google directions for Natalie Coffin Green Park. It is about a 10 minute drive from Treetop Pavilion. Sometimes hard to find parking in the lot but you can park in the neighborhood nearby and walk. But be careful where you park as they will ticket if not allowed.

A hike that begins directly from the Treetop Pavilion and takes about 1.5 hours. This is a nice stroll through San Anselmo neighborhoods to Sorich Park where you will take a fairly gradual climb up to vistas of the San Francisco Bay/Delta before looping back into the neighborhoods and back to the Treetop Pavilion. I usually like to take a hot tub after this hike for something to look forward to after all the exercise. To the park: https://goo.gl/maps/ER3yy4jaykwfH4EXA -Head east on Rutherford Ave -Cross Butterfield onto Meadowcroft Drive -Left onto Mornigside Drive -Right onto Brookside Drive -Left onto Cordone Drive -Right onto Cordone Alderney Path (a staircase slightly hidden by trees) -Continue onto Alderney Rd -Turn left to stay on Alderney Rd -Turn left onto San Francisco Blvd You have now arrived at Sorich Ranch Park and the Trailhead to Sorich/Tomahawk Trail https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/sorich-tomahawwk-trail-to-sorich-park-trail-loop

This hike you can walk directly from the Treetop Pavilion. This is my "go to" hike for beautiful views and great exercise as it has a fairly steep hill to climb and descend. About 45 minutes door to door. -Head west on Rutherford -Right on Bennit -Right on Camino de Herrera. Here you have the option to stay on this road all the way to the end to the water tower (I take this route) OR... head into the open space park where you will navigate narrow trails and then trudge directly UPHILL for 112 steps until you get the the same water tower. (I take my grandkids on this partway, before the uphill, to the "hidden swing" to play on then turn around and trace my way back home the same way.) -From water tower keep going UP til you reach the neighborhood on the top of the hill, Oak Springs Drive. Take the first left to go back into the Canyon. -Here is a magnificent view. On a clear day you can see: The Richmond Bridge, Oakland, The Bay Bridge and San Francisco - There is a sweet little bench to sit and take it all in! -Going downhill - Careful during dry months as it is quite slippery. Try to hug the sides where the grass is growing. About 100 feet of this type of terrain then you are ok again. - Continue on the path through the eucalyptus trees. -You will come to a fork in the path, turn left and follow until Willow Avenue. -Stay on Willow Avenue, it will wind downhill twisting and turning until it flattens out -Left onto Sir Francis Drake -Left onto Valley Road -Right onto Camino de Herrera -At the fork keep right onto Rutherford -One more block to arrive at the Treetop Pavilion - 26 Rutherford.

Try Yoga!

Yoga is very popular in Marin. While there are tons of great yoga studios - here is a beginner yoga challenge (good for all levels) you can do right at the Treetop Pavilion overlooking the hills. https://www.verokrutayoga.com/beginneryogachallenge Do something nice for your body and mind. Try Yoga! My yoga teacher developed this FREE 7 day beginner yoga challenge. Each session is between 15-19 minutes. Yoga mats and blocks in the drawer in the kitchenette.
