The Escarpment Track runs from Paekākāriki to Pukerua Bay, taking in sweeping views of the spectacular Kāpiti Coastline and the region’s famous Kāpiti Island. Families of all ages regularly enjoy this trail, but it is not recommended for the faint-hearted: you’ll scale around 1,200 steep steps, navigate narrow pathways across ridgelines, and traverse two swing bridges.

City/town information

Otaki Beach is located two kilometres west of Otaki’s shopping centre and four kilometres from state Highway 1. Otaki Surf Life Saving Club is located centrally on the beach and the club provides both volunteer and professional lifeguards during the summer months. The beach will only get large, dangerous waves during periods of bad weather and this is enough to keep people off the beach. The beach slopes gently into the ocean but holes and rips are common.
