#1. Free. All ages. The Hobbs visitor center is a good basic orientation to the Ozark forest. If you are interesting in the flora and fauna of the region, this is your first stop.

#6. Looking for a great picnic spot? You can find it here. The dam is just impressive to see and its surrounded by all the beauty of Beaver Lake and the White River. Day use should be free during the pandemic.

#8. Free. All ages. Actually a national park, the visitor center is closed due to COVID, but there's a very fine self-guided driving tour which is much more impactful if paired with the short film, "Thunder in the Ozarks: The Battle of Pea Ridge," available on YouTube or on the website (Learn about the Park/Photo Multimedia, bottom of the page.)

#4. Free. All ages. Whatever your religion, check out Jesus with arms wide open. This stop has a lot more to offer if you want to pay admissions, but the statue is free and really the best feature. It's a quick, free stop with great panoramic views and photo ops.

#5. Free. All ages. The architect of this unique church was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. It only takes about 15 minutes to fully appreciate this beautiful spot, so you should! Note: It's a functioning church on Sunday mornings.

#7. $ All ages. This is much more than a pit stop, it's also the home of the biggest soft-serve ice cream cone you'll ever eat. This is also as good a place as any to get gas.

#2. Free. All ages. It's actually War Eagle Mill and the Bean Palace Restaurant that I'm trying to steer you to, but War Eagle Cove was the closest available landmark. The historic, still functioning mill (with cute store) and one-lane bridge is just a cool spot. Tours are free. Neat place to pick up some edible souvenirs. Post COVID, the restaurant will again be an excellent breakfast or lunch spot.

Get to know NW Arkansas with this circular route.

This guidebook is designed to show you some of the best natural beauty in NWA. From my two listings, it takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive. It's incredible year round, but not advisable in inclement weather because of the twisty and steep roads. I have included suggested stops along the way. You can take a lovely short drive, or spend the whole day on this route with your choice of stops. Follow the numbers at the beginning of the description to visit in logical map order. Caution: Avoid driving these curvy roads in the dark. Take motion sickness meds if you get car sick. OK, here we go!

Places you will pass on this route that I am just not that impressed with: Turpentine Creek - overpriced, limited view of the animals. See instead Promised Land Zoo in Eagle Rock. Much better value and you get to interact with the animals. Quigley Castle - if you're a city slicker, this place may hold some interest, but for anyone with country roots, you won't be impressed.
