In the way back of the store is a counter that sells frito pies. If you’ve never experienced frito pie, it’s a delicious mix of chili and fritos (plus cheese and onions, if you like), eaten right out of the bag. It’s definitely a break from healthy eating, but sometimes you’ve just got to do it. So much fun to sit in the plaza and eat frito pie right out of the bag!

Ojo Caliente Spa has a location in Santa Fe and on the way to Taos. Both are absolutely wonderful and offer incredible hot spring soaking, swimming, spa services, restaurants and beautiful grounds to relax and rejuvenate your body, mind and soul! Day passes are first come first served and I recommend going on a weekday or earlier in the day on the weekend before it’s too crowded.

This is the closer sister to Ojo Caliente and my personal preference (more shade, hammocks, large salt water swimming pool and puppies!). Just 20 minutes away. Drop in for a day pass of soaking and relaxing or schedule a massage or private tub. Wonderful food at the Blue Heron. Take in the adjacent historic and living history site, El Rancho de las Golondrinas, for a full day!

The River Trail is our favorite way to get out and about. You’ll find about 5 miles of paved trail along the Santa Fe River, perfect for a walk or run. From the house, head north (take a right) on Urioste. There are access points to the Trail about a block down, either to the right or left, on Alto. You can access Bicentennial/Alto Park to the left (tennis/basketball courts, soccer/baseball fields) and the grocery co-op, restaurants and plaza to the right.

One of the most scenic and serene hot springs we’ve ever been to. Multi-level pools with the hot springs cascading down via mini-falls, all set on a mountain side. Get there early to beat the crowds. Short but steep hike to the springs when the dirt road is open, July 1-Nov(ish). Otherwise it’s a 5 mile hike, one way.
