Situated on the Angus coastline and only 11miles from Dundee, Carnoustie has been a popular seaside holiday destination ever since the Victorians came here in quest of cures from the therapeutic sea air. Carnoustie dubbed itself the Brighton of the North and went on to be one of the most popular seaside resorts till WWII. The Carnoustie Bay that offers great views over the Tay estuary to Fife still retains its spectacular beauty and remains a must-see destination.

History and Culture

Read the Declaration of Arbroath in the abbey in which Scotland’s nobility proclaimed their independence from England around 1320. Or listen to your voice in the sacristy, which has one of the longest echoes in the country. The abbey was founded in 1178 by King William the Lion, who was buried here.

City/town information

With lots to enjoy at Carlogie House you may be tempted not to venture past the end of the drive, however, if you have time and inclination to explore, Carnoustie and Angus have it all. There is so much to see and do in Angus. Enjoy the many fascinating visitor attractions, go on a bike ride through the Angus countryside, explore the beaches and beauty spots or step back in time and explore the fascinating heritage attractions in Angus including Glamis Castle, the childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Visit Arbroath Abbey where the declaration of Scottish Independence was signed in 1320, fly back in time to Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre or hop on board a steam train at the Caledonian Railway. Carnoustie is close to major roads and rail lines, therefore well-positioned to act as a touring base for the East/ North East of Scotland.
