Sightseeing

If you like history, a visit to the Roman Baths is a must. There are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. If rugby is your thing, then you must come on a weekend when the rugby is on (once the games start again).

A quintessential English village, with 2 pubs (one over 700 years old), a cricket green and a 14th century church. There is also a small co-op and post office with a cash point machine. You can catch the bus into Bath from here.

Lovely little town with the added bonus of being at a beautiful gorge. If you like climbing or caves you will love this place. The town itself is quite touristy, but there are some great places to eat. If you're feeling energetic I definitely recommend the view from Jacob's ladder - you'll have to climb the 250 steps first, but worth it.

Food scene

A quaint little English village with a river running through it. You can also find a couple of nice pubs along the Kennet & Avon canal. Good places to eat include Timbrall's Yard or for a birthday or celebratory meal, try Ravello - nice Italian. There is also a tapas bar there called Pablo's.

Very cool little town. A lot of very eco-friendly people live around Frome, so you will find some cool little vegan coffee shops and cafes. They have a market on the last Saturday in the month which sells local produce (cheese, bread, cured meats etc) and artisan crafts of good quality. There is also the Cheese & Grain - check their website to book comedy nights, gigs and specialist events.

Local walks

Beautiful walk which is partly around the lake and part woodland. Great if you have dogs, although you will be expected to keep them on a lead at certain points. Shearwater is part of the Longleat Estate.

Local cycles

A small village, about 7 mins drive from the hut. Great pub with good food - the Fox and Badger - and it's dog friendly. In Wellow (next to the equestrian centre) you can park up and walk - or cycle - along the old trainline to Bath. You can even walk under the old train tunnels which play music. It's about 7 miles in total to Bath from Wellow - so 14 there and back. Much easier to cycle :)

There is a car park here and a cafe as well as a place to hire cycles if you want. There is an excellent walk all the way to Bradford on Avon along the Kennet & Avon canal towpath. You can also stop at Avoncliffe where there is a pub with a garden on the river (on the other side of the lock) and a cafe too (mostly open in the summer months).
