This former ore-mining town just over the Wisconsin-Michigan border.
Blown in over Lake Superior, the snow starts falling late autumn and keeps falling until spring. Its sheer quantity often exasperates locals, but it exhilarates cross-country skiers .
ABR is full service top notch ski touring center with 60km of beautifully groomed skating and striding trails and a 4-kilometer snowshoeing loop on more than 600 acres. located on over 1100 scenic acres of varied terrain along the Montreal River in Ironwood.

Right behind the house! Two trails, one for hiking and one for biking. Currently, approx 7 miles are complete from Ironwood to outside Bessemer(east) and a few miles west into Hurley/Wisconsin border where it joins up with an unpaved trail used for snowmobiling. The trail will eventually connect Ironwood in the UP to Belle Isle Park in Detroit!

Highly recommend a day trip and bike the Manitowish Waters Bike Trail...30 miles of beautiful paved trails through the woods. Stop into Dixie's on the Lake for a cup of coffee and treat!

Cruise through the islands, Hike the 4.5 mile Lakeshore Trail above the mainland sea caves, visit Big Bay State Park - Madeline Island is one of the Apostle Islands on lake Superior; it isn't part of the national lakeshore, but it does have a beautiful state park with a great campground, hiking trails and a beach — if you want to brave the brisk waters of Lake Superior.
