Day trip: drive 77 kilometres, or a drive of 1 1/2 hours from Devonport. Make a day of it and explore Cradle Mountain's. go for a hike or bush walk. marvel at the magnificent scenery, enjoy the purity of the air, wild rivers and waterfalls, plus unique flora and fauna. Part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
Vegetation: grassland, rainforest, ancient King Billy pine and native deciduous beech. Park wildlife includes Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, wombat, echidna and several bird species.

Dove Lake circuit walk is 6.5 KM in length and it takes about 3 hours. some bush walking experience is necessary as tracks may have short steep hill sections, rough surfaces and many steps. The area can be subject to severe weather conditions and the weather can change quickly. A valid Parks Pass is required. the circuit starts from the Dove Lake car park at Cradle Mountain. Dove Lake is a glacially carved lake directly beneath Cradle Mountain.

Day trip: a 1 hour and 45 minute drive will take you to Bridestowe Estate. Bridestowe is the largest lavender farm in the Southern Hemisphere, famous for the spectacular view of the lavender in bloom in December and January. Visitors are welcome all year round.

296 Gillespies Rd10 minute drive from Devonport. Fairy Colony at Lillico Beach. Little penguins are sedentary; in fact, they build a burrow and return to the same spot night after night after spending the day in the ocean feeding.
This makes little penguins perfect for bird watching, but they are shy and timid birds mostly, so you need to be careful to not upset them.
Here are some tips on where you can see them. Little penguins return after dark from feeding in the ocean. They gather together on the water's edge before making a dash up the beach to their burrows. if you are on the beach as they are trying to return, they may get scared away, so try not to get between the water's edge and the burrows. Also, watch where you put your feet, or stick to built paths, to make sure you do not trample a burrow or penguin. Little penguins are shy and they can be startled by bright lights and too much movement and noise from excited humans. Keep still and quiet when waiting for the penguins to return from a day's feeding and only use dim, red lights to watch the penguins.
