Winter: November - April 4x4 or All Wheel Drive REQUIRED

All roads to Cabins in Duck Creek are dirt/gravel. In the Winter they are plowed down to a descent layer of snow. Sunny days make for slick roads at night. Save yourself the hassle and drive a 4x4 or All wheel drive to avoid incidents. Also, there is little to no "Tow" Services in the area, getting stuck could be costly! Nov - April The community requires 4x4 or All Wheel Drive AND Chains! Call your host ahead to talk about current road conditions.

Look Out Point

On your way up from Cedar City on Hwy 14 about Mile marker 16-17 there is a beautiful look out, on the right, that shows views of peaks out near Zion. This view point has been the inspiration for many artists in the area and is worth the stop!

Diet restrictions

If you need specific dietary foods, ie... gluten free, dairy free, vegan etc... It is wise to bring them with you. The village stores are doing a great job stocking more and more necessities, but if you have a special request it would be wise to pack it ahead of time.

Winter Travel : avoid traveling during winter storms

Download Udot App on your phone or visit www.Udot.gov for road conditions and closures before traveling. Hwy 14 can have closures in the summer as well as winter, sometime there are fallen rocks so please be cautious while traveling up the mountain.

AVOID "THE CUT" (Spring Dr.)

While traveling to The Buck Shadow Cabin, your GPS will tell you to travel up "Spring Dr." otherwise known locally as "The Cut" STAY OFF this road. Instead turn RIGHT onto Church Dr. and your GPS should re-route you. The Cut is a service road for machinery. During winter months it is often one lane wide, with fallen boulders, anyone coming down The Cut in the winter often slides into banks or oncoming traffic. This is NOT a road for normal travelers. During the summer USE 4X4 to preserve our road conditions. The Cut can have giant ruts, and boulders. NOT FOR Through traffic.

Deer! Oh! Deer!

Herds and herds of Mule Deer and Pronghorn Antelope are in the Dixie National Forest. From spring to fall you can see these animals abundantly. DRIVE CAREFULLY! It is very sad that so many deer are killed on the side of Hwy 14. Unfortunately this is part of life up here on the mountain. We truly do not want you to experience the trauma of hitting a wild animal while visiting the area. Please be extra cautious especially during dawn and dusk hours of travel.

Utah Liquor

Once you cross into the State of Utah you may no longer purchase liquor or wine at any old grocery store. Liquor can only be purchased at State Liquor stores and they are NOT open on Sundays. Plan ahead! If coming from Vegas there is a Lee's liquor in Mesquite Nevada just before entering into Utah. The legal limit is .05% Please know, you may get arrested with ANY trace of alcohol in your blood regardless of the legal limit!

Zion and Bryce in the Winter!

Summer time in the National Parks, Zion and Bryce, are breathtaking! But beware you will not be alone! Consider seeing these beautiful parks during winter months, where you can still experience being the only one at the look outs or on the trails! The cabin is 50 min. from both Bryce and Zion!

The Village People!

Duck Creek Village has a population of about 350 full time residents. This number explodes in the summer to about 3000, not to mention the thousands of people headed to the parks that pass through from around the world. Scattered through the mountains are family cabins, some dating back to the 50's. The people who live and work here full time spend their summers working 7 days a week often more than 10 hours a day. The Village is small staffed and they work very hard to get through the summer crowds. Please be patient! Tip your wait staff... and enjoy a different pace of life!
