Skiing
A completely unique skiing experience! Mad River Glen has some of the most difficult and interesting ski terrain on the East Coast. The single chair ensures low skier volume on the runs. On midwinter weekends it may be crowded particularly if the snow is good. However, mid-week it very commonly is empty. This is our favorite mountain and the reason we settled in the Mad River Valley!

Hiking
This makes a great hike or snowshoe trek accessible from down the lane, a short walk from our driveway. Wu Ledges is a series of cliffs that can be reached by hiking 20 minutes west of the house. From the cliff there’s a great view of the ski resorts and the Mad River Valley. Be cautious as it can be very difficult to navigate in these woods and there is not a good map that marks the location of the cliff. It is important to carry water and leave yourself plenty of time before dark if attempting this hike for the first time. The trail head can be found down the lane past the brown house and before the second house on the right. From here it is a straight shot 10 to 15 minutes to the cliff (estimated coordinates: 44.175600, -72.824700).

The trails are well marked and maintained. Sugarbush has some fantastic lift serviced hiking terrain to allow you the experience of hiking at higher altitudes without the climb.

Very accessible and scenic waterfall. Located right on route 100 south of Warren in Granville Gulf. Be sure to stop on your way out of town.

By far the most picturesque waterfalls in the area. Beautiful green pools of water in rock basins with high walls cascade one to the next. In summer this area can be very crowded with swimmers who come to jump from the cliffs into the pools. Parking is very difficult in summer. It is best to come early in the morning or in the shoulder seasons. Located on route 100 just south of the town of Warren. Not open in winter.

This is our favorite swimming hole! Located just adjacent to the covered bridge in downtown Waitsfield. There is a beach area with pebbles and sand. Teenagers often jump from the bridge and from rocks into the water. The Sweet Spot ice cream parlor is nearby. This swimming hole can be easily reached using the bikes in the garage.

Blueberry Lake is wonderful for children. The water tends to warm up quicker than the water in the river. Water is also very shallow and calm, making it perfect for small children. This is a popular place for canoeing.

Lareau Swimming Hole: This is a very comfortable swimming area. There’s plenty of parking and a large grassy area and beach area to relax. The water is calm and there is a nice rock to jump from.

There is fantastic mountain biking by Blueberry Lake. There are several long loops of variable difficulty including a great beginner trail. There is some technical riding on the advanced loops but all trails are marked appropriately. Ending your ride with a quick dip in the lake can make for a perfect summer day!
