In the Summer, the Terrace is one of my favorite places in the U.S. Set on the Lake Mendota lake-shore, they serve traditional grilled fare, amazing ice cream, lots of great beers, and offer free live music from a great stage with great sound on weekend evenings. Hundreds of college students line the shore and piers sunning themselves on nice days. Truly a Madison signature!

Although there is a $10 cover, and 2 drink minimum (they offer N/A drinks too), this has been a pretty consistent source of laughs for me over many years. Sometimes there are duds, but most of the time I've left very happy.

State Street is a great runway to the State Capitol building. Many shops, restaurants, and bars line the street making for great people watching, and great shopping. Many indie shops, and not so many chains.
