There are better beaches, it's true. Even in Edinburgh possibly most people think of Portobello beach (To me that one is just flat ... But there are nice seaside things on a hot day... Ok I am not having a go at Portobello but it's been really windy when I've been so if you a layer of skin taking off go to there by all means - Nature's exfoliating salon! ) But I think Cramond is nice - more interesting. It has the island, the village (with a few nice pubs) and walks around it. It has public loos. Not sure if I saw them at Portobello... :) And this may not seem like a selling point but you get to see the planes flying in over the Forth, but not like you on Heathrow Flight Path.

Because I had some Black Dahl there for the first time and I was blown away by how good it was. Went back a few days later and bought it as a takeaway to freeze. I'm not a "foodie" but I love this. And another thing... I went to a creative writing class and we had to write about a food we loved - and this was what I chose.

It is a really good local pub and you get good meals at reasonable prices and it is not far from the flat. And good service too! Oh and it is a real ale pub so selection of new things to try.

I recommend it because I have eaten a fair amount of garlic bread in my time, and really, even if it was good garlic bread it can't really be that much better than anything ever tasted before... but the garlic bread I had at O'Oliviero was off the scale for my taste buds! It was soooo good. I can't recommend anything else from here as that is all I ate - ended up ordering another so got pretty full. But really, who would believe a standard little old common or gardener like garlic bread could cause a stir in taste city.

It's a great big white dome full of science based stuff. And on a nice day you can sit out side on the steps and look at other people sitting on the steps. And it has a great backdrop - Arthur's Seat. It is near other interesting tour places ( Holyrood, the Royal Mile and obviously Arthur's Seat )

It's interesting! It's up high and it is 'starry' :) And it fits the science brief.

Science and nature! To quote from their own website: "The Botanic garden is now a world-renowned centre for plant science, horticulture and education." Get the day bus pass and you can take in these slightly out of the way attractions as well as playing sardines at the castle. :)

Have the exact change ready! And if it's £4 that means you can get a day pass and go on any bus, and the tram (but not to the airport) so it is a cheap way to sight see. And you can sight see other passengers while you are between stops.
