If you're interested in archeology, a trip to Chichen Itza is essential . It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Cancun but totally worth it!!

This gigantic archeological site is a two-hour car drive from the condo on Carretera 180D, a very smooth toll road that will run you somewhere around $400MXN. We hear taking a bus from Cancun is about three hours. Make sure you bring water, the place is hot!!

Beaches
All of the beaches in Cancun are accessible to the public, with something like 18 public access points to the entire Hotel Zone coastline. For a great experience, you can get all-inclusive day passes at several different resort options. Venturapark.com lists all of the beaches by location and quality.
