You can walk east along the beach from my flat in Hove to Brighton Palace Pier in about 30-40 minutes taking in the sea, the front, the Regency squares such as Brunswick, the collapsed ruins of the West pier, the arches full of galleries, pubs, chippies, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs and, of course, seagulls. If the weather is good the beaches will be packed, if it's stormy the sea will be wild and the prom deserted.

Shoreham Harbour beach is a beautiful natural beach about 15 minutes walk from my flat that runs just over a mile the length of the harbour, largely behind a wall on the Basin Road South. When the tide is out you can walk along sand and on a clear day you can see Worthing pier 13 miles away and a fabulous sunset. To get there walk along the prom from my flat west past Hove lagoon until you see large white houses in a private road to reach the harbour entrance. Walk along Basin Road South as it turns into the harbour and you will see the beach on your left behind a wall. If you walk along the beach to the end past the power station you will find a cafe and the harbour entrance.
