Neighborhoods

Within walking distance : * Parks * Cafes * Bars * Restaurants * Markets * Boutiques
Whether it's your first time to Montreal or you're a seasoned visitor, you've probably heard of Le Plateau. But where exactly is it? According to Google Maps, it's the area extending west-to-east from Parc Ave at the foot of Mont Royal to the train tracks just past d'Iberville St, and north-to-south from Van Horne Ave down to Sherbrooke St, at which point the street levels drop in elevation like a shelf. As far as my understanding goes, the term "plateau," French for "platter," is a fitting description for the neighborhood as a flat, tray-like zone bearing a wide variety of parks, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and bars, some of which are hailed as landmarks of the city's rich gastronomical history (i.e. Schwartz's Deli, St. Viateur Bagels, &c.). While the city of Montreal has much to offer downtown, in the Old Port, along the Lachine canal, or practically anywhere else you may find yourself, my apartment's location is particularly appealing for the ability to explore one of the city's most flourished neighborhoods easily on foot or by bicycle, making it an ideal respite for a guaranteed good-time. In my guidebook, you will find a quick guide for my personal favorites within a maximum 30 minutes' walking distance of my rental, to help you get the very most out of your stay.

CAFÉ MANIA!

Woke up hungry and not in the mood to cook? Head here for a great deal (~10$!) on a delicious soup-sandwich-coffee trio. The owner is also incredibly friendly.

Hands down, my favorite coffee shop in Montreal. Tucked away on the quieter end of busy Mont-Royal Avenue, it offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can settle for a good cup of coffee and scone with your work, and even displays a rotating exhibition of local artists' work! They also have a charming little terrace in the back alley, for nice days. But if you go there, be prepared: this establishment takes CASH ONLY.

This little gem is a bit further away than others recommended, but is totally worth the trip for the hidden side garden tucked away on quiet Marie-Anne St. The shop offers a simple selection of baked goods or paninis for lunch, and the location makes for a nice walk through the neighborhood on a clear summer's day.
