Cafe's

This popular cafe on Roncy, not far from High Park Blvd., is cozy and inviting, in spite of the (mostly) communal table. They make excellent coffee and wonderful baked treats; they even have light meals (soups/ sandwiches). Very popular with mom's in the hood but is by no means an SUV stroller den.

Popular with the super-hip, coffee crowd, cherry bomb is not a place for lingering. It has few tables, so most afficionados grab their java to go. Coffee is great though, so worth a stop if you're a serious coffee lover and don't necessarily care to linger long.

The jams are delightful but OMG you have never tasted a scone like these before. They are a worthy indulgence and they even sell bona fide Devon clotted cream.

Food scene

Pizza here is EXCELLENT. Place is friendly and welcoming and is packed most nights, but I don't know if they take reservations. It may be one of those places where you show up and take your chance at finding a spot; though we have never had trouble, depending on when you go. Best to call them beforehand.

This place is renowned for its fare; they do one thing well, in many forms (there is even a breakie bbq). Operated by the sole son of a family of Bay Street lawyers, this guy made the right choice to pass up the family biz and instead make his mark in the world of ribs and brisket, etc. Call ahead as there is usually a line up, even though they have now been on Roncy for many years.

Green Space

The main namesake of the hood, this 400 acre paradise of trails, gardens, a fishing pond, restaurants (nothing fancy), wading pools, and a large, relatively new, public pool is a nature lover's paradise. In spring it is the scene of cherry blossom fever as hundreds of tourists throng to get site of and sit under dozens of cherry blossom trees that bloom for about 2-3 weeks in May (or earlier depending on the season). We are blessed to live so close to this spectacular park, bequeathed to the City in perpetuity by a former, resident from earlier days, we are the current benefactors of this lovely place. Even if all you want is a peaceful stroll, there are plenty of trails and paths to delight. The restaurant in the centre is more of a greasy spoon, but is always packed in summer, especially on the patio and prices are reasonable for what you get.

This Lakefront walking/ biking trail can be accessed from Lakeshore Blvd, just south of our place. You can walk through the park, or just walk south on Parkside Dr. for a few blocks and you will find yourself on the lake and can access the trail from there. It goes all the way downtown (about a 10km ride) and east to the beaches neighbourhood, and west, to Oakville (about 20 km). Even for the moderately or minimally fit, it is an easy ride/walk, as it is mostly flat (apart from a few steep hills, one of which is east of the Blvd Club (swank, members only country club on the waterfront just west of High Park).

Shopping

This shoe mecca, carries many cool brands not found in major dept. stores. The staff have a keen eye for trendy, yet comfy and practical shoes, and are ready and willing to give advice and let you try on as many shoes as you like until the perfect pair is found. I simply LOVE this place and the staff are fab. It's only about a 10 min walk from the Mansion, on the southern end of Roncy.

Sightseeing

The CNE is akin to an annual world fare; mostly a carnival at this point, it runs from about Aug 16- Labour Day each year and features food, games and other carnival fun and has permanent grounds (Exhibition Grounds) opposite the waterfront. There are a number of buildings that host different venues, from food to the latest tech gadgets. Many families look forward to this annual ritual that (sadly) marks the end of summer and back to school. It's a bit schlocky, but pure fun. The tiny tim donuts are delic, as well as the ice cream waffles. Exhibition Place also acts as a concert venue when the CNE is not running.
