My favourite spots for trips

When I travel abroad, I like to visit places that are still unspoilt by mass tourism or places locals visit to rest their sould. I'm an outdoor person who likes hiking and good food, and for guests who like to travel in a similar way, I'm offering some spots around my house and a bit wider.
The Rakov Škocjan valley is a karst valley at the northern base of the Javorniki hills which was created when the ceiling of a karst cave began sinking and collapsing. This is proven by the 42-meter Little Natural Bridge, the 37-meter Big Natural Bridge and two gorges behind them. It's a great afternoon walk, where one can observe millions of years of geological processes which shaped this little karst valley. My tip is to only have a drink in the hotel in the middle of the valley, don't have lunch there, the food isn't that good. :)

The phenomenon of intermittent (disappearing) Lake Cerknica has become famous worldwide as an area where cattle can graze, farmers can plow fields, catch fish and drive boats in the same place. When the lake is full, it is the largest lake in Slovenia, but then it dries up and reveals its farming land. Through all seasons it shows completely different faces and to truly feel what Lake Cerknica is, you have to come back many times. The lake can be seen from several sides, but I suggest that you start in the village of Dolnje Jezero, where locals have put up a museum about their mysterious attraction.

Škocjan’s cave system is a must-see while in Slovenia for a number of reasons. The 6 km of caves carved by the Reka river include one of the largest underground canyons in the world, waterfalls, deep sinkholes, and the usual stalactites and stalagmites. It's a wild cave and one of the best I’ve been to, plus, Škocjan’s doesn’t get as much hype or visitors as Postojna, but you get the real and wild impression of our underground beauties.

Nanos is a high Karst plateau, which rises steeply above Postojna basin and Vipavska valley wine region. It has several summits, but the most popular one is the panoramic edge by a television transmitter and 'Vojkova Koča' hut. There are several ways to ascend; you can either choose a steep and fast one (1 hour) or an easier path and even do a whole day trip around the plateau. You need good walking shoes. There's also a Via Ferrata (secured climbing path) - a fun and unique way to experience mountainous terrain. In this case you'll need safety belt and helmet (I can lend you both). You can reward yourself with a nice lunch at the top (Vojkova koča hut) or even take a longer hike (or drive up there) to Abram tourist farm - a place with splendid homeproduced and homegrown food!
