Food Scene

It's a place which is not typically touristique. No-one I've suggested it to, and it's the only place I suggest because I know it, has been disappointed.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is my "Cheers" place... where it seems "everybody knows your name, and they're awfully glad you came." The staff are pretty cool and friendly. And the Thursday Quiz night is one of my favourite evenings.

Parks & Nature

It's an amazing Napoleonic Fort with a dry moat and 360 degree views of the mountains and the coast.

You have to see the scenery walking the coastal path. You may not know it but you're sharing the views with film stars and former residents David Niven and Kenneth Moore (he played Douglas "Tin legs" Bader). I once drank with Moore's elegant granddaughters in Villefranche and briefly took a peek at Moore's home by the water with its own jetty below the veranda. Impressario and artist Jean Cocteau decorated the residence Santo Sospir near the Lighthouse with wonderful murals of mythological creatures. Owner Francine Weisweiller became his muse and they entertained Picasso, Dietrich, Garbo, and the like. If you get a chance to visit the house, it's a real treat and a step back in time.
