Parks & Nature

The Blue Cave was at first time described and painted by Baron Eugen von Ransonet. It was originally accessible only by diving, but based on his suggestion, an artificial entrance large enough for small boats was built in 1884. With natural entrance to the cave, located on its southern side, it resembles a vault on the ceiling of a grotto. It is through this submarine-like opening on the ceiling of the cave that leaves sunlight in and creates an iridescent blue glowing effect all around the cave. A stone bar is connecting with two walls of the cave and is clearly visible just below the waterline.Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. At this time of day the sunlight reflects through the water coming from the white floor of the cave and bathes the grotto in aquamarine light, while objects in the water appear to be silver. For this type of phenomenon is also knowen The Blue Grotto on the island of Capri in Italy.

Stiniva beach is located on the island of Vis in southern Croatia. It is a beautiful hidden beach on the southern part of the island. Surrounded by high cliffs, one part of this fantastic pebble beach is always in the shade, so you can also hide from the hot midday sun, parasol and beach chairs are not available for rent on the beach. This beach is about 35 meters long with small pebbles and perfectly clear sea. This breathtaking bay can be reached by boat or on foot. There are several trips organized from the town of Vis, but if you want to emerge yourself in this beautiful nature that offers the island we advise you to go on foot taking the narrow steep path that goes from the hamlet Žužeca. It will take about 15 minutes to reach the bay and the beach. Or you can rent a boat in the town of Vis and visit this beach. This is more of an option if you would like to find “your very own beach” in some hidden bay other than visiting Stiniva beach that in summer can be very crowded.

The little island of Budikovac, pronounced Budihovac by the locals, is an ideal spot for a real vacation. On the island, there is a wonderful pebble beach, and the small bay, protected from the open sea, offers an attractive shelter for the many yachtsmen who love to spend their vacations here. There is a shallow anchorage (around 2 m) and a beautiful lagoon for swimming on the south-eastern side of the island of Vis. The lagoon is situated opposite the island of Vis. It can be accessed from the south, between the islet of Mali Budikovac and the island of Budikovac. While sailing through the passage, it is recommended to stay closer to Mali Budikovac, as on the Budikovac side there are shallow rocks.
