With the conquest of Rethymno by the Ottomans, the monastery was converted into a mosque, which was known as the Mosque of Gazi Hussain Pasha or Nerazeh Mosque. After the population exchange and the departure of the Muslims from Crete in 1924, the building was turned into a conservatory.
