Haddon Hall is the second most popular historic house in the Peak District. Haddon Hall dates back from the 12th century and is a fine example of a fortified medieval manor house, very little has changed over the centuries in fact the most modern room in the house is the Elizabethan long gallery! As Haddon Hall provides a unique view of early English life it makes the property very popular as a film and TV location, various versions of Jane Eyre have been filmed at Hall as well as Pride and Prejudice, The Other Boleyn Girl and most recently Death come to Pemberley, however these are just a few of the Hall film and TV appearances. The Hall is open to the public, however please note that it does close for periods throughout the winter season, so please check its website for its opening times and special events.

Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges are only a short drive away and offer a spectacular walking route where you can view both the Dark and White Peaks. These three gritstone edges are part of an almost continuous line of cliffs running from Stanage Edge down to Birchen Edge at the southern end. These Edges once famous for millstones are now known as great places to rock climb. There are over 200 rock-climbing routes on Curbar Edge alone, making the edges a mecca for walkers and climbers alike. For walkers, Baslow Edge also offers interesting features including a memorial to the Duke of Wellington, a giant rock called the Eagle Stone. In years gone by the young men of Baslow used to show off their prowess and fitness for marriage by climbing to the top, which is not as easy as you might think!

Perhaps best known for its unique and delicious Pudding, Bakewell has many more tempting treats to offer. A shoppers delight, with lots of independent and artisan shops, specialist markets and boutique finds you can while away hours roaming its pretty streets and perusing the local offerings. Head down to the River Wye and stroll along its pretty banks, (you can go all the way to its neighbouring pretty village of Ashford), feed the ducks and scoff ice creams in the huge parkland next to the river. An architectural hidden gem with its mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards, they are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike. Legend has it that the town's famous Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable 'jam tart that went wrong' can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés and posted virtually anywhere in the world! Bargains galore are on offer every Monday at the bustling outdoor market, and for an extra buzz, head for the livestock market to experience the action in the theatre-like auction ring. Arguably one of the prettiest villages in the Peak District. Full of history, within Ashford's civil parish, are 62 structures that are listed by Historic England for their historic or architectural interest. Ashford Hall and the Sheepwash Bridge that is Grade II*. All the others, including Thornbridge Hall and the parish church, are Grade II. Ashford Hall dates from 1785, though alterations were made in about 1840. Sheepwash Bridge The Sheepwash Bridge, which dates from the 17th century, is a packhorse bridge with an attached stone sheepwash: lambs were placed in the pen on one side of the river and the ewes swam across the river to get to them, while being pushed underwater by the shepherds to clean the fleece before shearing. Large trout inhabit the waters of the Wye around the bridge. It is a Scheduled Monument as well as a listed building. Ashfords Holy Trinity Church was mostly rebuilt in 1868–70 but has a partly 13th-century tower, a 14th-century north arcade and a recovered Norman tympanum above the south doorway. Behind the church are traces of a moat, all that remains of a fortified house which was the home of Edmund Plantagenet, brother of Edward II.
