Food Scene

I've traveled to Mexico just about as many times as I have fingers and Taco Tijuana (2 blocks away) make the best tacos I have ever had and they're only 5$ !! With only 3 choices on the menu (beef, beef and pork or fish tacos) you might wonder how they not only survive but thrive until you've had your first bite and then you'll understand :)

NDG is full of amazing restaurants (read we're full of foodies) and Pasta Casareccia is no exception. While it used to be known only for its authentic Italian groceries, deli counter and desserts, they expanded a while ago and now operate as a restaurant as well. Although the decor could use a little work for what is normally assumed of a fine dining restaurant, the food is truly delicious and VERY authentic ! This is one of the few non-BYOB restaurants within a few blocks of the apartment but well worth it if you're looking for fine Italian dinning without having to leave the area for downtown.

BEST WOOD-BURNING OVEN PIZZA EVER !! Although they don't appear super close on the map, I always walk regardless and it's no more than 15-20 minutes away and well worth the trip. This is one of our many BYOB restaurants which is why I prefer to walk since 1 bottle usually isn't enough and the walk does my body good ;) They also have a HUGE terrasse out front and have been in business for decades !! 1 step inside the restaurant and the amazing smell will convince you if my review hasn't ;P

1 word; CROISSANT !! Hand's down the best croissant in Montreal :) Fred also happens to be from France so he knows what he's doing. I used to live around the corner from his shop and although it's now a 20 minute walk away, I still go only I usually grab a BIXI (rent-a-bike) to get there. They bake everything they serve right on site the smell in there is to die for :)

Not everyone likes ethnic food but everyone in Montreal does and this restaurant, one of MANY Indian restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance, is delicious ! The decor is very charming and the staff are excellent. If you like butter chicken but tire of the "Western-world-variety" they also offer the Indian version which really just means, it's tastes even better and isn't as mild (read made for the masses). This however, is one of the few that isn't BYOB .. but if that's what you're looking for, there's one next door with better pricing too however, this is my favorite Indian in the area. If you're making a reservation ahead of time, ask for the window seat :)

Delicious and very Trendy !! This restaurant has only been in business for a little over a year and has already become a neighborhood-favorite with a huge following :) They take their burgers very seriously and you will too once you've had a bite from any number of their combinations. Hmmm .. I can already taste the caramelized onions and blue cheese ... too bad burgers aren't considered breakfast food :(

Drinks & Nightlife

Take a step back in time at Honey Martin's Pub. This is a dark, but beautiful little piece of history in and of it's self and often described as a "snug little pub" .. most people there are local to the area and usually very friendly too. This is a great spot for someone traveling alone because the pub is quite small so people will generally strike up a conversation because of it. Never too loud and great beer on tap !

Although I haven't been to this newly opened bar, it's aim is to replicate the Coyote Ugly experience and again, is within walking distance in case you're not seeing quite right after a night of fun :)

Parks & Nature

If you're not from Montreal, you may not know that drinking and picnicking in our parks are something we do a lot of during Montreal's extremely short-lived summer. On a sunny day, there are literally thousands of Montrealers who leave their hot apartments seeking out some fun in the sun. They're usually in a group and bring everything from guitars and tambourines to hula hoops and hacky sacks .. they eat, drink, laugh and dance, NDG's park is no exception !

Shopping

When in NDG .. We love recycling, up-cycling, re-using and re-purposing .. nothing put in the garbage ever makes it to a landfill unless it's truly garbage. The residents in NDG love getting their hands on what is considered trash by some but treasure to the rest. Although not my favorite thrift shop, it's EXTREMELY affordable and it's only 3 blocks away for those who like the hunt :)

Essentials

Another awesome place literally next door to the apartment. You can buy marinated meats from the butcher's counter or freshly roasted nuts and cheese as well. They'll even cook the skewers of meat for you if you've got 10 minutes to spare. his is a Lebanese-owned grocery store and has everything you're looking for except bacon :(
