Sightseeing

The Lighthouse park is always one of our go-to spots in the area. It has panoramic views of all Five Islands as well as the Old Wife (part of Five Islands Provincial Park), the Brothers (also known as Two Islands), Cape Blomidon and Cape Split. It's unmatched scenery in the Bay of Fundy and it's also part of the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark! The Lighthouse Park has almost 300m of oceanfront and direct access to a long, gravel beach. There is a historic lighthouse, a unique ship playground for kids, and approx. 1km of walking paths at the park. There are also several benches, chairs and two new hammocks where you can sit and enjoy the view! There is a large picnic shelter that provides shade, and accessible washrooms that are open and serviced daily from May to October. Note: It always seems to be extra breezy here and the wind off the bay can be chilly at times so you may want to grab a sweater or jacket on your way out the door!

The Five Islands Provincial Park is approx. 11km away from the Airbnb and it offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, kayaking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, rock collecting and clam digging! It's a very popular area for camping as well with 92 open and wooded sites. The sea cliffs at the Provincial Park are pretty spectacular - they are approx. 300ft in some areas, overlooking the world's highest tides! There are over 5km of marked and mapped trails here which can be enjoyed in any season. Red head trail offers beautiful views of the islands, the basin and the impressive sand dunes. We recommend going to the Provincial Park at low tide so you can explore the beaches safely. Check out the tide schedule before you visit (https://www.tides.gc.ca)!

Granny's is open daily from 11-7pm (take-out only)! Many locals think this is where you find the best fried clams. It's also, in our opinion, where you find the best ice cream - they've got a great selection of flavours and the scoops are always generous! Call (902) 728-3311 to place your order in advance.

The BlackRock Bistro is 100% worth the 15 minute drive from the cottage. Their food and drinks are often locally sourced, and they have a variety of options including gluten free and vegetarian. There is something for everyone! It's our favourite restaurant in the area! Check their website or socials for updated hours of operation, especially in the off-season. It's also a good idea to call ahead to reserve a table as space is limited.
