The history of Sooke is fascinating. When the Hudson’s Bay Company’s fur trading fort was established at Camosun (now Victoria) in 1843, European immigration and land acquisition followed. The first independent immigrant to purchase land in the new colony of Vancouver’s Island, at Sooke harbour in 1849, was Captain Walter Colquhoun Grant of the Royal Scots Greys. A cairn in his memory was erected in 1958, for B.C.’s Centennial.

A wide swath of green lawn fronts this sand and pebble beach, where visitors can relax and enjoy a picnic (we provide a complimentary Picnic Basket in the suite for you to use) or take a cool dip in the ocean - if you are brave. Towels are also provided in the studio along with a beach blanket, sunhats and sunscreen.
