Delicious fresh fish you can buy and take home to cook. If you really want to get your fish directly from a fisherman, take a surfing class with Brit and then later on ask him if he can sell you his catch of the day when he goes fishing.

The north shore is definitely the tropical and lush part of the Island. You'll definitely feel like you are in Jurassic Park. Princeville has beautiful golf course and ocean views, a variety of great yoga classes (one in particular that you can take on the beach), a small shopping center with the north shore's biggest super market called Foodland. You're only about a 10 minute drive from the world famous, crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, ranked by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top ten beaches in the world.

The best tip I can give to tourists about swimming in the ocean is: "when is doubt don't go out". When tourists first arrive to Kauai they can't wait to go swimming and they swim far and have trouble swimming back. Start slow. You want to first build your stamina in the water.
