Sightseeing

What makes this beach special, apart from the crystal clear water, is that it is not a white sand beach. Instead of sand you will walk on small rounded stones of many shapes, colors and dimensions. El Quemaito is one of the many beaches that the town of Barahona has, a few minutes from the town (15 minutes) you can enjoy a unique beach. There you can find small businesses on the beach where you can eat fresh seafood from the Caribbean Sea or enjoy a fresh seasonal fruit juice or a delicious beer. Or simply enjoy the most radiant sun you can feel.

SAN RAFAEL BEACH AND RIVER Located just off the main coast road, this white-rock Barahona beach combines panoramic mountain views with river pools and waterfalls that run to the shore, where the San Rafael River meets the Caribbean Sea. Surfers will find good waves here, especially in the morning. On the beach, you will find food and drink vendors serving Dominican seafood dishes. Important: It’s not recommended to bathe in the waters of this beach because it is deep and the waves are very strong.

Villa Miriam is a paradise. It is one of my favorite places. Its small waterfalls of cold and crystalline water and its pools fed by the water of the same river, surrounded by lush vegetation, make this place a little paradise. Visitors can order Creole food at the entrance of the property. Villa Miriam is about 30 minutes (25km) from Barahona in a beautiful route, which is done enjoying a spectacular view of an impressive turquoise blue Caribbean Sea.

With about 500 meters in length, Los Patos is considered the shortest river in the world. It is born at the foot of one of the mountains of Paraíso and ends on the beach of the same name. This spa, located between the Paraíso-Enriquillo road, is characterized by its crystal clear, almost immaculate waters, with a cold temperature. Here there is an important reserve of fish that coexist in total communion with the bathers. One of the characteristics of these species is that they are waiting for visitors to feed them. Here, diving or splashing in the water, in the shade of the trees, is a singular pleasure. On the beach, with its deep waters and agitated waves, swimming is not recommended. But it stands out for its spectacular views of the coast and its sandy beaches with abundant stones with very polished faces.
