Parks & Nature
A bit pricey, but the swinging mile-high bridge is an experience, and the 360 views are unparalleled in the area. The trip is mostly driving up the mountain in your car and then a short jaunt across the bridge. Stop at the museum, wildlife reserve, and fudge shop on your way up the mountain.

Don't go to the mast general store in Boone, and don't go to the annex in Valle Crucis. Continue another half mile down the road to the original. It's hard to describe. It's part hardware store, candy store, post office, outdoor provisioner, and a little of everything else. This was THE store back in the day, and they've kept that old-world charm. There's not much else to do over in Valle Crucis, but if you're up for some fantastic Southern-inspired fine dining in a house built originally built in the 1800s, take some time at the Mast General Store and then head over to Over Yonder restaurant.
