Take a 3 hour hike or a short stroll along the water with views of Vashon Island. You can also do the 5 mile drive with view points of Gig Harbor, Bainbridge Island, Tacoma Narrows bridge, etc.

Also within Point Defiance Park, this is a great PNW beach to visit. Like most PNW beaches, it's not sandy, but there are boats to watch, driftwood to climb on, and if you're feeling brave, you can take a dip in the (usually very cold) Puget Sound.

Decent size public park for swimming, fishing, and picnic. Many grills, tables, kayaks and gazebo for rent, wonderful view of the sound and Mt Rainier.
