Take in a slice of American History at Fort Halifax a former British colonial outpost on the banks of the Sebasticook River, just above its mouth at the Kennebec River, in Winslow, Maine.[3] Originally built as a wooden palisaded star fort in 1754, during the French and Indian War, only a single blockhouse survives. A National Historic Landmark, it is the oldest blockhouse in the United States. It is now set in a municipal park, and is open to the public in the warmer months.

Ideal spot for a picnic. In August the Town of Winslow holds Fort Halifax Day.

This is a cool historic park. There are picnic tables, so if you are in the mood to have lunch on the river, this is the spot for you. You could easily get cozy with a great book as well.
