Anderton Boat Lift is 10 minutes away by car. The visitors centre houses a lovely gift shop and cafe. Anderton Boat Lift itself is a 50-foot lift between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal, built in 1875.

The Anderton Boat Lift is a two caisson lift lock near the village of Anderton, Northwich, Cheshire. It provides a 50ft vertical link between two navigable waterways: River Weaver and Trent & Weaver.

The Anderton Boat Lift has earnt its nickname of Cathedral of the Canals for a very good reason. Not only does it still do the job it was designed to do of lifting boats and barges the 50 feet from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent & Mersey Canal, but it does it with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure on the canal system. It is only a 30 minute drive from Chester.
