About 1 hour (give or take with traffic) south via I-45 is Houston's beach life. Galveston, TX is home to the Gulf of Mexico, where you can park on the Galveston Strip and enjoy the beach. Galveston is also home to many unique spots such as the Kemah Boardwalk, Moody Gardens, and Pleasure Pier.

You will see a lot of people in golf carts and walking around. Especially on the seawall and the strand. Most places in Galveston are very safe... especially the closer to the action you get. Galveston is in a revitalizing stage. You'll see a lot of renovations, new builds and the charm of the older homes when you enter the island.

Only 45 min away you will be at the beach. Enjoy walking along the seawall, check out Galveston Downtown with strand main street full of small local souvenir shops.

The historic beach town, Galveston, is less than an hour’s drive from Houston. It's considered by many to be an extension of the city itself. Why go? There’s plenty to do here, too. From 32 miles of beaches (chilled-out Jamaica Beach is the locals' favorite) to an evocative historic district full of Victorian architecture and old seafaring inns. Check out the chateau-like Bishop’s Palace before pedaling a beach cruiser bike along the seawall at sunset. Had enough of volleyball and sun-bathing? Spend some time fishing and exploring the historic ships at Seawolf Park, including the U.S.S. Cavalla and U.S.S. Stewart.
