The favorite mountain of the people of Reykjavík. A bit of a challenge to go all the way to the top but you can also go part of the way. There is a well established path all the way to the top. Very popular climb. Some jog up there on a regular basis.
Popular hiking path with a great view on Reykjavik and surroundings. You can take a bus.
I nice short hike that takes about an hour one way. Its our beloved Mount Esja that is always visible from the city. It's a short drive from the city and an easy hike.
You don´t need to go far to get a great hike closed to Reykjavik and see amazing view on the top of the mountain.
This mountain is excellent for a hike and easily accessed by bus or bicycle. Takes about 40 minutes to drive to its roots. The view from the top is astonishing and worth all the effort.

“A very big, non-touristy, and beautifully remote hiking area, surprisingly close to the city. Try to find Heidmork caves or just walk around the waterfall or river, or into the woods. ”

“On old lighthouse on the western most point of the Reykjavík peninsula. It's a great spot during the summer to see the sun go just below the horizon before rising again. In the winter it's a great spot for catching the Northern Lights.”
