For those who love an intense hike/workout with gorgeous views, this trail starts at the Jackson Drive entrance. This is uphill to start, but once you get through it, you get to choose your path through the mountains and have the option to cover many more miles leading up to the 52 freeway and back…

We know, we know—this is a list of road routes. But we couldn’t resist. Just take a short 10-mile drive northeast of downtown, and you’ll wind up in Mission Trails Regional Park—6,000 acres of mountain biking trails for nearly every type of rider and experience level. Split by the Fortuna Mountains,…

Trail
“3 miles round trip, moderate hike, 1,593 ft elevation (our favorite!) One of the most popular trails in San Diego, it is also the highest peak within the County, so once you reach the summit you will be rewarded with 360 degree panoramic views of downtown San Diego, Mexico, North County and Orange County on a clear day. It is a lot of stair climbing, but also a great workout so if you like a vigorous hike, this is a great one! Because it can get pretty crowded on the weekends and during the summer, we suggest hiking in the morning or evening (the city light skyline at night is breathtaking). If you go at night, of course take a flashlight or use your phone to light up the way. The hike usually takes us 40min up, 25min down. Bring water. ”

Parke
“We walk to the lake almost every day. Note that the trail does not go in a complete circle. If you go the end of the 4 mile trail you will have to turn around to get back. They rent boats, canoes, bikes etc in the park. If you fish you need a license.”
