Full of Civil War history. See where the Potomac River and Shenandoah River converge. Rigorous hiking on Maryland Heights. Beautiful view on hike. Near C&O canal.

Historic Harpers Ferry, located at the congruence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, is rooted in American history dating back to 1761 when Robert Harper established the original ferry. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson also visited the area for its natural beauty and strategic location for an armory. But it is best known for John Brown's raid in 1859, part of the abolitionist movement that led to the Civil War.

Harpers Ferry is known for its rich Civil War history, battlefield & National Park, and quaint small town feel. The beautiful riverfront area is a fun place to take a dip or have a picnic. Walk through the historic town or take in a Civil War tour. Park at the National Park and ride the shuttle to the small downtown. Things to do, shops and restaurants are all adorable. Lots of area hiking opportunities and a great way to spend a half or full day.
