La Popular - No fuss, grab a beer and eat kind of place. I always get the veggie soup of veggie tlayuda and my partner loves the camarones y arroz. He tells me they are the best prawns he's had in Oaxaca so far. Service can be slow, but there is no rush in Mexico.

Well located, relaxed ambience, art in walls. Good tortas and oaxacan dishes. The owner is the friend of everybody :) Have a beer and see people walking. My favorite: Rollos de quesillo con hoja santa y salsa de chapulines! Try any torta (cheap & big!)

This is an affordable place in the Santo Domingo area, affordable considering the amazing location, rents are very high in this area, they have good food considering the price but do not expect anything fancy. There are more affordable places in Mercados and little restaurants outside the tourists area but this is a good option if you are in the Historical Centre and want a good and affordable meal. Most of the for can be made vegan or vegetarian is you ask them.
