The Salinas del Carmen are the only salt mines in Fuerteventura that are still in operation. They occupy 26,100 m2 and are made up of 10 cookers and almost 1,000 pits. Located on the Costa de Antigua, the museum is also located on its premises, integrated among the facilities of the salt flats, which include the salt warehouse, the salt worker's house and the remains of the old pier.
