The name of this small town can only bring to mind the famous world famous person to whom the village had the honor of giving birth: Leonardo, the genius of the Renaissance. The origins of Vinci date back to the Middle Ages, a period in which the area in which the village stands today was controlled by the Guidi counts: it is to them that the construction of the fortress that today outlines the profile of Vinci is due. The Conti Guidi castle is also known as "the ship's castle" because of its elongated architecture which makes it look like a boat and houses the Leonardian Museum, one of the largest collections in the world centered around the Tuscan genius. Also inside the castle is the Leonardian Library, an important documentation center for all the works of the great Renaissance genius. In the Castle square it is impossible not to notice the large wooden sculpture "The Man of Vinci", in homage to the famous Vitruvian Man with ideal proportions. Another point of interest that makes the small town of Vinci a destination to visit is Piazza dei Guidi, an original urban area designed by the artist Mimmo Paladino, who, always referring to Leonardo's works, has created an unusual space in which the floors depict some of the inventor's drawings and change their appearance according to the weather conditions, creating ever new and changing scenarios.
