The National Maritime Museum of the State of Israel is dedicated to the history of shipping in the Mediterranean Basin, the Red Sea and the banks of the Nile and its purpose is to present the maritime history of the region. The museum's collection also includes archaeological findings from an old art museum that was closed. The museum is located on Allenby Street, in the city of Haifa, at the meeting point between Mount Carmel and the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of Stella Maris, and near the Clandestine Immigration and Naval Museum, Eliyahu Cave and Haifa Cable Car.

The National Maritime Museum was established in 1953, based on the private collection of Arye Ben Eli, the founder and first manager of the museum. In 1972 the building was inaugurated at its current location, 198 Allenby St. The museum presents spectacular exhibitions of seamanship from different eras. One of the permanent exhibitions, The Pirates, is experiential and unique in the country. The museum also presents rare findings that survived from antiquity, sub-marine archeology, Greco-Roman coins, marine mythology, etc. The museum is located at the southern entrance to Haifa and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
