Just pure bliss and a little hidden from the crowds as it requires walking down a bush track to reach. Pristine sand and blue ocean ...lovely memories and a feeling of being in paradise. If you don't have time to get down there on foot, its also lovely to look at from Shakespeare lookout too (not far from Cooks Beach and signposted from the main highway) You can drive up to the lookout and take in Mercury Bay and its breathtaking beauty

Absolutely gorgeous wee bay, get on ferry then walk up Shakespeare cliff for magnificent pic opportunities then head down the track to lonely bay, you can also get to cooks beach from the track. Great day out. Take water and togs.

You can view Lonely Bay from Shakespeare’s Cliff Lookout. Drive back down hill from lookout, turn left on the tar sealed corner, there is a parking area here, walk down track to Lonely Bay. It’s a 3 minute Native bush walk down to the beach. A beautiful peaceful, serene place to go for a picnic and a great place for swimming and shell collecting.

One of our favourite day trips: Take the passenger ferry from the Whitianga wharf over to Ferry Landing. Walk over the hill to visit the stunning Front Beach. Follow the beach (if low tide) around to your right/east, or take the roadside footpath a few hundred metres around to Flaxmill Bay - calmer than Front beach and very safe for young ones to swim. Across the road is Eggcentric Cafe. Take the cliff path from far side of Flaxmill Bay up to the Shakespears Cliff Lookout for panoramic views of the entire bay. Looking east you will see the open sweep of Cooks Beach and in between is Lonely Bay. A short track will take you down. The whole trip is less than 3km one way.
