Sandown airfield hosts loads of events all season including live music and BBQs, cycle races, fun runs, car boot sales (typically on a Saturday), classic car shows and offers free car parking. It also houses the aircraft museum and giant rocket from the island’s space race days. It's well worth checking their website to match your stay dates with any events they hold that you'd like to attend. Just as an example, there's a company that comes over a couple of times during the season that does helicopter pleasure flights from the grass airfield, which will take you across Sandown bay giving you some amazing aerial photo opportunities to share on social media. We walked up to watch them last year and to enjoy the BBQ and music that the café bistro puts on. www.eghn.org.uk

View the island from above by taking a trip in a plane or a microlight. It's such a great experience - you'll never forget it.
