Here you get an upfront close to wildlife and kangaroos experience right at the tavern while having a cold drink after a lovely bush walk. The staff are lovely and friendly which is great. However I personally am not a fan of the food. So for the WILD LIFE, WALK TRAILS and A COLD BEER this place is GREAT! Then I would suggest moving on for a meal :)

Enjoy picnics, bushwalking and observe wildlife in their natural habitat, the South Ledge picnic area has several picnic tables, toilets and adjacent walks. There are Jarrah and Marri trees around the picnic area and quite a few flowers out in spring where the granite outcrops occur. There is a 400-metre-return walk from South Ledge to Golden View which is particularly scenic. The walk through the bush meets a viewing platform with sweeping views of the surrounding Helena River Valley.

Arts & Culture

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a look inside the famous studio of Antonio Battistessa, where many of the works you’ll see around the Swan Valley and Western Australia were created. Like me, Antonio was born in the Swan Valley and started working with metal at the age of 15 and became an apprentice blacksmith. Over the years, he has garnered an international reputation for his rare and unique pieces made from forged iron, steel and copper, which he combines with rare woods and ornate glass. Antonio believes art takes many forms and can be functional as well as beautiful, and today you’ll find his impressive works in major collections locally, interstate and overseas.

WOODBRIDGE HOUSE Visit Woodbridge - Ford Street, Woodbridge 6056 WA. Captain James Stirling took up land here in 1829. He named his property ‘Woodbridge’ as it reminded him of the area around the home of his wife’s family in Surrey, England. Stirling had a small cottage built but spent little time there. At the end of his term as Governor in 1839, Stirling left the colony and leased the property to various tenants. In 1895 Charles established a school in the house for his children and those of neighbours. A small single storied school building was erected in 1900. It was purchased a decade later by the Church of England and went on to become what is now Guildford Grammar School. For twenty

Don't miss Guildford's historic Colonial Gaol, the former local lock up for petty criminals awaiting trial or serious offenders awaiting transport to Perth or Fremantle gaols. A decade after Guildford was settled in 1830 - and following the establishment of three public houses that led to many locals being charged with drunken behaviour - it became evident the town was in dire need of a gaol. The gaol was open for business in April 1841 and closed in November 1969. Along the way it housed WA's most famous bushranger, Moondyne Joe, who was caught at the Houghton Winery in the Swan Valley two years after escaping from Fremantle Prison. Built in the 1850s by convict labour, the fascinating Garrick Theatre originally served as a Commissariat Store and quarters and is a stunning reminder of the early convict days of the Swan River colony. The dwelling was designed by prominent engineer Lieutenant Edmund Du Cane to help kickstart the Colony's economy and infrastructure after a period of depression. It was built alongside a gaol, a depot for ticket of leave men, and quarters for himself. All these buildings, along Meadow Street, were completed by convict labour by the end of 1852. The single-storey, brick-walled, corrugated iron dwelling was built in the Colonial Georgian style and was later used as a drill hall by Enrolled P

“The richness of the soil, the bright foliage of the shrubs, the majesty of the surrounding trees, the abrupt and red coloured banks of the River occasionally seen, and the view of the blue summits of the mountains from which we were not far distant, made the scenery around this spot as beautiful as any thing or kind I had ever witnessed” - Sir James Stirling I RECOMMEND THE HOMESTEAD BREWERY TO EAT AT!!! A guest who was checking in late recently asked me for a fast food option close by. My personal favorite would have to be Zambrero. They also have a drive through option, so if you are coming from the airport its a viable option just before you zip up the hill and check into the chalet. Its a great healthy choice of all the take away options in the area.

Gorgeous location. Visit Inn Mahogany Creek and take in the rich tapestry of experience that has made Inn a WA favourite for over 180 years. With all the charm of its wayward cottage tradition, fused elegantly with the comforts of modern life. The food is great and taste their great selection of wines, beers and cocktails – all whilst basking in the serenity that defines Inn Mahogany Creek. The owner also operates The Rose and Crown Hotel in Guildford. The food and drink there is equally as good but it is louder and busier.

FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT! WINE LOVERS AND FOODIES! Experience the memorable Hot Rocks style of dining at this beautiful lakeside setting. Local produce is served on individual volcanic rocks that have been heated to 400C. Watch your meal sizzle at the table and enjoy it cooked exactly to your liking. Lake Charlotte Vineyard is situated 250 metres above the coastal plain. This elevation has a micro climate that brings out the crisp, fruity flavours in our white wines and body and bouquet in our reds. Frosty winters make for a long dormancy ensuring a uniform bud burst to give an even concentration of fruit and flavour.

Stop at the Mundaring Weir in the Darling Ranges and walk along the historical dam. Mundaring Weir is a dam (and historically the adjoining locality) located 39 kilometres (24 mi) from Perth, Western Australia in the Darling Scarp. The dam and reservoir form the boundary between the suburbs of Reservoir and Sawyers Valley. The dam impounds the Helena River.

Be sure to visit historic All Saints Church, the oldest church in WA. Built by one of the early pioneers of the area, Richard Edwards, over three painstaking years, this charming church has been hosting services since 1841. It's a beaut spot to wander, discover the craftsmanship of the early settlers and walk through the cemetery, where you will find the gravestones of pioneers who played a significant role in developing the colony. The site itself is the very place Captain James Stirling camped in 1827. The sign at the entrance of the church grounds states, 'It was here the vision of a State arose in his heart and mind.' A poignant and not-to-be-missed experience in the Valley!
