Here you get an upfront close to wildlife and kangaroos experience right at the tavern while having a cold drink after a lovely bush walk.
The staff are lovely and friendly which is great.
However I personally am not a fan of the food.
So for the WILD LIFE, WALK TRAILS and A COLD BEER this place is GREAT!
Then I would suggest moving on for a meal :)

John Forrest Tavern

.The Lookout is a small quiet picnic area located south of the Mundaring Weir, providing amazing panoramic views over Lake CY O’Connor, the Mundaring Weir and the Helena River Valley. Enjoy picnics, bushwalking and observe wildlife in their natural habitat, the South Ledge picnic area has several picnic tables, toilets and adjacent walks. There are Jarrah and Marri trees around the picnic area and quite a few flowers out in spring where the granite outcrops occur. There is a 400-metre-return walk from South Ledge to Golden View which is particularly scenic. The walk through the bush meets a viewing platform with sweeping views of the surrounding Helena River Valley.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a look inside the famous studio of Antonio Battistessa, where many of the works you’ll see around the Swan Valley and Western Australia were created.
Like me, Antonio was born in the Swan Valley and started working with metal at the age of 15 and became an apprentice blacksmith. Over the years, he has garnered an international reputation for his rare and unique pieces made from forged iron, steel and copper, which he combines with rare woods and ornate glass.
Antonio believes art takes many forms and can be functional as well as beautiful, and today you’ll find his impressive works in major collections locally, interstate and overseas.

It was built alongside a gaol, a depot for ticket of leave men, and quarters for himself. All these buildings, along Meadow Street, were completed by convict labour by the end of 1852.

A guest who was checking in late recently asked me for a fast food option close by. My personal favorite would have to be Zambrero. They also have a drive through option, so if you are coming from the airport its a viable option just before you zip up the hill and check into the chalet. Its a great healthy choice of all the take away options in the area.
