Food Scene

Asheville has a reputation! As one of the best places to dine in the Southeast. It's no joke either. We have some truly unique spots to enjoy any time of day! I have my favorites which I'll share here. I try to take you off the beaten track into some truly unique local spots! Please let me know if you find something even better.
Neighborhood favorite at 233 Montford Ave! If you're looking for a spot in Montford where the locals line up check out this hoppin' Jamaican/Caribbean joint. Great options for the veggie, vegan and gluten free diner with abundant flavors from the Caribbean. Great pasta dishes as well as some tasty sautes served with basmati rice. Great if you love spicy but they have something to satisfy the milder palate as well. There's often a line during peak dinner hours. That's a good sign!

Cool fusion Tacos with 2 locations in Asheville. I prefer to chill outside at the 388 Riverside Drive location. From there you can stop in for delicious Chocolate at the French Broad Chocolate Factory then continue chilling by the river at Zillicoa Beer Co. at 870 Riverside Drive in nearby Woodfin, NC.

I can't recommend this place enough! At 175 Clingman Ave smack dab in the the River Arts District where you definitely want to be, All Souls serves up wood fired pizza using fresh farm to table ingredients and unbeatable culinary skill. The dough is the star! Made from local, regional grains ground in a stone mill, this place is serving more than pizza it's serving a bit of Carolina heritage along with it. If you are a pizza aficionado you'd be doing a disservice to yourself to miss this one.

Another Montford favorite located a short drive up Montford Avenue at 946 Montford Ave. Renamed as 828 Family Pizza it can be found in an unassuming strip mall whose main feature is Petco. This Italian restaurant is not as elegant nor as pricey as some of the others but stands up as one of the best places to feed a family (or a family of friends!). They have New York style pizza smothered in fresh ingredients. Think big, big pizzas, big salads, all to share and don't forget, real cannoli to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Right in Pack Square downtown. People walk past this place all the time and don't go in. I don't get it. They serve one of the best breakfast and lunch menus in town curated by Chef Hector who brings it with his excellent Latin inspired cuisine. Lunch offerings revolve around a delicious menu of roasted chicken served al fresco with a variety of sides. It's straight out of your favorite hole in the wall in Brooklyn! Breakfast is great too and all the prices are so good why aren't you there right now?!

This short but sweet multi use path serves as a connector between downtown Asheville and the beautiful University of North Carolina Asheville campus. The paved path parallels the riparian corridor of Reed Creek on one side, and the developing neighborhoods of Broadway Avenue on the other. Due to nearby development, it’s not the most serene path in Asheville, but it is a nice off-street commute to the University area. The southern end of the path starts near to intersection of Magnolia Ave and Young Street in the Five Points neighborhood. It reaches north about .75 miles before reaching the Botanical Gardens at Asheville. Here, you can take a tour of the campus and gardens before continuing on Reed Creek through Mullen Park. The path extends another mile to Weaver Park, the turn around point. As an out and back, this route is about 3.8 miles.
