Some History

This cottage, along with others on Lawn Way, as well as the Six Sisters (across the alley and facing the ocean) are listed on the National Historic Register as the Six Sisters-Lawn Way Historic District (87000623). The Lawn Way cottages were built around the turn of the century. They were originally part of Camp Capitola, a seaside resort which grew into Capitola as we know it today. The integrity of the 115-117 structure has remained intact through the years. Our family bought the duplex in the early 1950s and until 2009, the original structure remained. In 2009, the interior was remodeled but the integrity of the outside structure remained.
Capitola is filled with some wonderful history. Our grandparents spent their honeymoon here in the 20's and purchased this cottage in the early 50's. My grandmother said that Al Capone used to hide out here in the 1930's (not independently verified). Be sure to visit the Capitola Museum of some wonderful old photos of Capitola!
