Renovated houses turned into bungalow bars reign supreme on Rainey, the increasingly popular tucked-away street. Day or night, you’ll find relaxed bar-goers strolling from bar to food trailer to bar again, often with their dogs in tow looking for a kicked back sip and a bite.

While East 6th Street is the primary downtown entertainment district, the part of the street that lies west of Congress Avenue is also dotted with bars. A cluster of fun bars starts at the intersection of West 6th Street and Nueces. The vibe is a little more low-key and parking is much easier to find than it is on the busier part of 6th Street.

There are three sections of Sixth Street in Austin: West, East and what locals refer to as Dirty. For locals, Dirty Sixth runs from Congress to I-35. East Sixth is in the East of I-35. For many Austin visitors, Dirty 6th defines the life of a party town. The street screams eclectic. Lined with dive bars, restaurants, delicious food trucks, and LOTS of live music. East 6th is more hippie, also quite new–in relation to Dirty or West Sixth–with the gentrification of east Austin surging in the past 10 years.

Located in a renovated historic home in the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood, Cenote specializes in high quality espresso and local fair trade coffees, but that isn't all this coffeehouse has to offer. The menu includes delicious pastries, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads and plenty of gluten-free options, all made with local organic ingredients. With great coffee, fresh food, and a comfortable atmosphere, Cenote is definitely worth checking out.

Hamilton Pool Preserve is a historic swimming hole. Located 3/4 mile upstream from its confluence with the Pedernales River, Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50 foot waterfall as it plunges into the head of a steep box canyon. The waterfall never completely dries up, but in dry times it does slow to a trickle. However, the pool's water level stays pretty constant, even during periods of drought. Reservations are required to enter Hamilton Pool Preserve during peak summer months, May-September.

It’s a little sand beach in the Roy G. Guerrero Park. You could drive or walk to the park to get on the walking trail. You will follow this trail for about 5 minutes until you come to a right turn in the path where a sign listing park rules (with doggie clean-up bags) is posted. Then you turn right and go downhill to the beach.
