Parks & Nature

The Bijambare area, famous for its caves, is located on the far north-eastern slopes of Ilijaš, a small town near Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is accessible by the main road Sarajevo-Olovo, from which an asphalt road branches out leading towards a mountain home and the especially known Bijambare cave. Large parts of these caves are open to visitors. Optimum height above sea level (950 m on average), thick conifer woods, meadows, two water flows with lakes and chasms, five caves, rocky massif and high quality air provide ideal conditions for alpinism, speleology, skiing, mushroom picking, medicinal herb picking, or simply for nature excursions and visits. The middle part of Bijambare is a karst enclave with all its commonly observed characteristics: caves, lost rivers, intriguing funnel-shaped depressions and rocky massifs. There are five caves located in three horizons, in a pretty small area. One of these caves is especially popular- the Bijambare cave, which has been a popular tourist spot and a speleological site for a long time. The cave is 420 m long (basic direction without individual branches), with four halls with rich ornaments of all known creation forms: lateral blocks, stalactites, casts, stalagmites and curtains. The fourth hall is the biggest (around 60 m in diameter and 15–30 m in height). It is also called the "music hall" for its acoustic effects.

Climb the old town leads to a small fortress "Yellow bastion," a unique experience in the panorama, sight and sound. It was built in 1809 of rough-cut stone, with seven external side 10 meters high and eight side, facing north, is 27.5 meters high. On the north side there are stairs and a facility for soldiers, and on the southwest side of the Muslim cemetery. In the Middle Ages, the most prominent area (where today the White bastion) was built a fortress with five high towers. This was the reason why most of the beach was saved from the fire, when the Prince Eugene of Savoy burned the whole city in 1697, after three days of looting. In 1727, Bosnia, Gazi Ahmed Pasha Skopljak decided to build a wall around Vratnik. Construction was completed in 1739, during the reign of Hekimoglu Ali Pasha, but in the end there were five bastions and three gatehouses (Gate Towers) and five doors in the walls. One of the bastions built on a cliff Jekovac, which is called Jekovačka bastion, but because of its yellowish stone named Yellow bastion, for whose construction Ahmed Pasha probably hired Dubrovnik masters. In 1878, the silence of weapons of yellow bastion of resistance marks the end and beginning of the Austro-Hungarian occupation of the city. Although the Austro-Hungarian army continues to benefit from Yellow bastion, Muslims are still allowed to fire the cannon during Ramadan, as a sign of the end of fasting. This practice is prohibited for a period of Yugoslavia, but was restored in 1992 and runs until danas.Ramazanski top on the Yellow Bastion in recent years has become a major attraction for both the people of Sarajevo, and for the many tourists who come to the Yellow Bastion to enjoy the great view from the the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in order, to the sound of cannon, end the daily post more than 17 hours, during which they waive all meals, drinks and other bodily pleasures.

http://piramidasunca.ba/eng/home-en.html?view=featured Claims about Bosnian pyramids are a pseudoarchaeological notion promoted by author Semir Osmanagić, who proposes that a cluster of natural hills in central Bosnia and Herzegovina are the largest human-made ancient pyramids on Earth. The hills are located near the town of Visoko, northwest of Sarajevo. Visočica hill, where the old town of Visoki was once sited, came to international attention in October 2005, following a news-media campaign by Osmanagić and his supporters. Osmanagić states that he has found tunnels, stone blocks and ancient mortar, which he has suggested once covered the Visočica structure. He opened excavations in 2006 which have reshaped the hill, making it look like a stepped pyramid. Geologists, archeologists and other scientists have however concluded, after analysis of the site, its known history, and the excavations, that the hills are natural formations known as flatirons and that there are no signs of human construction involved.

http://tunelspasa.ba/#_=_ The Sarajevo Tunnel (Bosnian: Tunel spasa) was an underground tunnel constructed between March and June of 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War. It was built by the Bosnian Army in order to link the city of Sarajevo, which was entirely cut off by Serbian forces, with Bosnian-held territory on the other side of the Sarajevo Airport, an area controlled by the United Nations. The tunnel linked the Sarajevo neighbourhoods of Dobrinja and Butmir, allowing food, war supplies, and humanitarian aid to come into the city, and allowing people to get out. The tunnel became a major way of bypassing the international arms embargo and providing the city defenders with weaponry.
