Among the colorful walls that are covered with gifts, creative dishes circulate from one side to the other: a peach-palm hearts moqueca (stew with coconut milk, “dendê” palm oil and spices) with plantains going one way, a portion of dried meat with herb butter accompanied by peanut farofa (toasted peanut flour) going in the other direction. The restaurant maintains the Brazilian identity – with a strong Northeastern influence – thanks to chef Kátia Barbosa’s parents.

For over a century, Cavé pastry shop has been a must-go place during a visit to Rio Downtwn. Getting inside is a journey to the past to relive a little bit of the Ancient Rio. First pastry shop in town, it was founded in March 1860 by Charles Auguste Cavé, a French man who led the business through 1922. It was later taken by Portuguese associates who brought to the menu dishes which still can be found there, such as the famous Pastel de Belém (Portuguese custard tarts), toucinho do céu (Portuguese almond cake), and dom Rodrigo, which is made with egg threads and cinnamon.

The menu specialized in Brazilian cuisine with a refined French touch, the wine card that gives preference to national brands, the cozy environment of the establishment and the beautiful view of Guanabara Bay transform Aprazível’s apparent rusticity in one of the most exquisite restaurants in the city. The simplicity and the coziness of the house, split into four environments, puts the client in direct contact with nature, offering them the shade of mango and avocado trees in the restaurant’s external area, saloons in the main house and a pleasant balcony with view to a beautiful sunset.

In the top of the mountain is installed Christ the redeemer, one of the most wanted touristic sides of Rio de Janeiro. Biggest and most famous scripture Art Déco of the world. It’s located at Parque Nacional da Tijuca, 710 meter above the sea level, where anybody can appreciate one of the most beautiful views of the city. The monument is accessible by train, van or car. To get into the monument, there’s a nice ride by train that, during 20 minutes, it crosses Mata Atlântica until Corcovado’s top. Making an easy access to the visitants, three panoramic elevators and four escalators were built. The visual is amazing; it makes an unmissable programme for those that visit the city.

The Guanabara Palace began to be built in 1853 by merchant José Machado Coelho, in a property known as Chácara do Rozo de Domingos Francisco de Araújo Rozo, which was the most beautiful country house on the street called Rua Guanabara (now Rua Pinheiro Machado) and that was private residence until 1860. It is currently used as the seat of the government of Rio de Janeiro, where it dispatches the governor and the staff of his office. To this day, the Imperial Family tries to regain possession of it (one of the oldest legal proceedings in the country).

Guinle Park was originally a farmhouse acquired by Dr. Eduardo Guinle to build his residence. Today the Guinle mansion is known as the Laranjeiras Palace, the official residence of the governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The Park located at the end of Rua Gago Coutinho, has entrance through a beautiful gate that gives access to an area of 24,750 m2 where you can see a small lake, avenues, lawns, trees and tropical plants. Because it is an area of the Governor's residence, the place is very well policed. It is worth to visit this beautiful park.

Those who pass through Rua Cosme Velho hardly notice a small alley (Beco do Boticário) that gives entrance to the charming Largo do Boticário. There are only 8 houses in neocolonial style, surrounded by the Atlantic forest and where you can still hear the Carioca River running in the open air. The Largo came into existence in 1879 and its houses have undergone many renovations and continue to need care, but still the place continues to attract tourists and take the visitor to a quiet and bucolic time travel. The name Boticário was given because there lived Sergeant Joaquim da Silva Souto, retired military man known for the preparation of ointments and syrups, an apothecary.

Questions like “where did we come from?” and “where are we going?” pervade the thoughts of the world’s population and are common among all peoples. Reflecting on these questions, as well as others, the visionary project of the Museum of Tomorrow took shape and became an ample space for debating and studying the impact of our actions and how we can alter the decaying scenario that draws close. The Museum of Tomorrow is a pioneer project:there is no place like this one in the whole worldwhere cultural and research activities have this aim of studying our tomorrow.

One of the most traditional concert halls in the country. Cecilia Meireles was a name that was imposed without any effort on the recognition of his talent and admiration of the country. She died in November 1964. She was a poet of Brazil and dear friend of Carlos Lacerda. It was no wonder, then, that the governor wanted to honor her in some way. The opportunity came when, finally, the property has gained a musical identity and had to give it a name. Lacerda didn´t have to think too much. The room name was Cecilia Meireles Concert Hall. In Lapa, the city center, the room became, over the years, an important space of training and dissemination of concert music in Rio de Janeiro.
