This is a unique place that relies on volunteers for its waiting staff, has a very community-oriented ethos, and operates on a pay-what-you-feel pricing model. You can pay $1 or $50 for you meal if you feel like it, and they won't bat an eye.
Always has a great vibe and is a good hub for other community-oriented things and generally meeting friendly people.
Generally open 12-3pm and again for dinner 6-9pm.

This place has respectable pizza, maybe not the absolute best you'll find but pretty good, but its Zataar wraps are unique and very tasty, definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for easy and tasty street food!

I don't know of anywhere else around with comparable food, even though there are many competing Indian restaurants. If you want some really authentic Indian and Pakistani eats, this place is 100% the place to go.

This is a charming Turkish Cafe that's an easy walk away. Generally good food and a fairly authentic atmosphere. Good place to sit and people-watch. Try their apple tea or their Turkish delight!

If it's a really nice day and a weekend or public holiday, I strongly recommend catching the bus from just outside Newtown station. Yes, it's a little extra walking, but those busses can get packed and you don't want to be turned away!
