Phenomenal wood oven pizza with micro local brewery beers. Good English spoken with some servers fully bilingual (Spanish/English) & most are fluent in English. Solid all around restaurant. Please note that they are closed on Mondays. Many people, Costa Ricans and expats alike travel to go eat there from pueblos around even the city of SJ!

Nice little café owned by a German lady. Very friendly staff, decent English and varied options with professional presentation. Clean and well run establishment. They make bread and their international cheesecake is most excellent!

Moonsoon is gaining popularity. They can do Indian and some Asian food. Very tasty, very spicy if you want it and the naan bread is dangerously good. You can't only have one piece. On the same road as La Coope!

Referred to as 'El Jardín', sits just a bit outside of town which makes for a nice joy ride in the mountains and a good meal. This is another restaurant getting more and more popular.

One of the best surfing beaches in CR. This is where the pros go surfing! Always respect the ocean!

This restaurant is located on the old road perched on a cliff and has stunning views everyday. You can eat on the ledge facing the scenery. Typical restaurant which has its charm. The perfect place to go for a joy ride out of town.
Pro tip: Excellent option for before or after Las Minas Waterfalls as it is on the way.

It's worth just going for the joy ride and maybe have a drink at the bar. They of course have a nice kitchen and a menu. Basically on the other side of where we live. Highly recommend, the views are unbelievable.

From 5a.m. to 12h. You can buy some coco water and have a typical breakfast (gallo pinto) while shopping for the best fresh produce around (mostly all organic & locally grown). Some other vendors as well and ample parking space.
You can buy beautiful flowers, plants, munchies, wine, some crafts etc. Every week brings a little something different. Highly recommended!

You want to take off early morning not to miss the crater. Be kind to your ride, shift up/down and stop half way up/down to take some photos and give the car a breather. Located at about 60km/37miles from Atenas.
