Food Scene

The counter at this East Dallas icon gets a little crowded during the lunch rush, but the sandwiches at Jimmy’s Food Store are absolutely worth throwing a few elbows for. Try the ridiculously meaty Italian Stallion, or stick with the much-beloved Cuban. Shots of espresso and cheap glasses of good Italian wine are an added bonus.

Barbecue lovers flock to stand in line at this Deep Ellum barbecue haven in search of brisket and sausage and Pecan Lodge’s signature (and massive) beef rib. Don’t forget to save room for a bowl of banana pudding – the recipe comes from co-owner Diane Fourton’s grandmother, and the Boss Lady is serious about it being consistently top-notch.

Cane Rosso continues to be Dallas’ king of Neapolitan style pizza, and that probably won’t change any time soon. Order the fan-favorite Delia pie, topped with bacon marmalade and grape tomatos, or keep it classic with the city’s best margherita.

Shopping

Walking through NorthPark Center is like walking through the modern art wing of a gallery while you shop, and is where all the city's classiest socialites go. Home to brands such as Lacoste, Anthropologie, Neiman Marcus, Burberry, Dooney & Bourke, Gucci, Prada, and more, even if you don't intend to buy anything, the artworks and sculptures (think Warhol and Dine) displayed in this not-so-run-of-the-mill mall are worth the visit
